www.barkavenue.org
Bark Avenue on Parade, Inc. is an independent, non-profit, all volunteer organization operating in Minneapolis
and St. Paul, MN. We are dedicated to conducting pet-assisted therapy; the sensory and social interaction of friendly,
trained dog-handler teams with people who may be isolated due to age, illness or disability. Bark Avenue's regular
visit schedule includes four monthly visits at three area hospitals. Bark Avenue presents additional programs at
Twin Cities hospitals, nursing homes and senior residences. Other programs for education or entertainment have
been presented at scout meetings, community festivals, schools, churches, family reunions, and other special events.
Bark Avenue members also meet for socialization of dogs and continuing education for both handlers and dogs. These
meetings are necessary to insure the dogs establish and maintain membership in the Bark Avenue "pack." |
Mounted Eagles Therapeutic Riding Program
3800 Blackbear Road, Brainerd, MN 56401
www.mountedeagles.org
Having visited this program and the website, I can tell you that the introductory
text on their home pages is typically "Minnesota-nice" and understated. This program is much more than
the website would have you believe with a wholesome, family approach and many warm and generous people. Their purpose
is to enable handicapped persons to participate in equine-related activities, including, but not limited to the
care, training, riding and driving of horses. They strive to interest and educate the public in the recreational,
educational, and therapeutic benefits of the care and use of horses by handicapped persons. This is a truly superb
program run by genuinely great people. |
