www.visitingpetprogram.org

Originally created in 1987, the Visiting Pet Program became an independent 501 C(3) non-profit organization in May 2000. We are the only animal assisted activity/therapy program in the Greater New Orleans Area. Our program has grown steadily since its inception. It currently includes over 160 volunteer handlers who visit more than 35 area nursing homes, hospitals, rehabilitation facilities and special facilities for children, including Raintree Services. The animal therapist include a variety of mix-breed and pedigreed dogs and cats, as well as guinea pigs and rabbits. All animals have been temperment tested during our Pet/Handler evaluation held twice a year and are given an annual health check by a veterinarian. All volunteers carry $1,000,000 personal liability insurance. Our motto: "Bringing Love and Leaving Smiles" Our mission: Through the unconditional love of the animals, the Visiting Pet Program strives to enchance the quality of life of all we meet.
