Tails of Joy is an all volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation formed to provide network of dependable, caring volunteers committed to providing a therapeutic benefit through the use of animals to physically, emotionally, or mentally challenged people. Other goals are to provide support, training and education to those interested in Animal Assisted Therapy programs, and to connect volunteers with requesting facilities.

Tails of Joy was established in 1995. The group began with a few members making regular visits with their companion dogs to area nursing homes. Since then the Tails of Joy family has grown considerably and now provides therapy in a wide variety of facilities within Connecticut. Tails of Joy offers two levels of therapy visits: Animal Assisted Activities (AAA) and Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT). Improvement in the quality of life may come through increased social stimulation, tactile stimulation such as petting and touching, and improved morale and well being.
