The Lanark County Therapeutic Riding Program has been offering specialized horse-back riding lessons to physically and developmentally handicapped people in Lanark County since 1986; part of Lanark Community Programs, sponsored by the Carleton Place and District Memorial Hospital; member of the Ontario Therapeutic Riding Association, The Canadian Therapeutic Riding Association and The Driving for Disabled Association.

Established in 1975 as an incorporated, non-profit organization, the Little Bits Riding Club offers disabled individuals the opportunity to enjoy the therapeutic and recreational benefits of horseback riding. By focusing on ability rather than disability, the riding program complements the treatment of physically, mentally and emotionally disabled equestrians.

Founded in 1988 by Sadey Guy as an active animal therapy program on southern Vancouver Island. Volunteers take their pets to visit at retirement homes, hospitals and other facilities. Pet visitations improve the wellbeing of the sick, elderly, lonely and shut-ins. PATS pets come in all shapes and sizes. While most are dogs, PATS therapy pets include cats, rabbits, birds, goats, even a llama, a miniature horse, and a snake.

Pacific Riding for the Disabled Association was established in 1973 to provide individuals with disabilities a venue that would give them both therapy and personal growth through the realm of horseback riding. PRDA is dedicated to providing both therapy and personal growth through horseback riding.

Provides education, practical training and coordinated referral services to facilities such as group homes, continuing care centre hospitals, community programs and schools. Services include provision of volunteers and companion animals for ‘team’ visits on a scheduled basis, referral of volunteers and companion animals to facilities for individualized long-term assignment, site assessment of facilities to support the program (needs determination, risk management), on-going support services as necessary.
