Based in Birmingham, Alabama, Hand in Paw offers services and programs focused on children and youth. Hand in Paw certifies pets under the guidelines established by Delta Society. Volunteers can be certified in either animal assisted activities or the more formal animal assisted therapy.

Hand In Paw is Alabama's first nonprofit organization to provide registered Delta Society® Pet Partner® teams as therapeutic tools in medical, social service and educational settings. Its mission is to improve people's health and quality of life through therapeutic interaction with certified animals. Its vision is a compassionate, caring society where animals and people are valued and respected.

Hand in Paw has established a solid community presence, including a fund raiser (
Picasso Pets) and a pet therapy conference.

Special Equestrians, Inc. was created to offer any physically, mentally or emotionally challenged person the opportunity to experiance the benefits of therapeutic horseback riding. All riders must have a physican's referral to be eligible. The program serves all disabilities, within the guidelines set by NARHA. Sessions typically run eight weeks in the fall and spring on Saturdays and Sundays. However, there are a few weekday classes year around. All classes are held at our riding facility at Indian Springs School.
