The American Kennel Club (AKC) has a Canine Good Citizen (CGC) award that is the basis of most therapy dog training
requirements. There is no age limitation, but the tested dog must have completed all its immunizations prior to
testing. This allows a speedier introduction of your dog into therapeutic work if your dog is otherwise ready.
Dogs do not have to be purebred to earn the CGC designation. Here is a link to the AKC web page that lists the
